Permanent Thermal/Japanese Hair Straightening Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Permanent Thermal (Japanese) Straightening Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: What is iStraight system (Permanent/Japanese Hair Straightening)?
A: iStraight system Hair Straightening is an innovative technique started 20 years ago in Japan to make frizzy, curly or wavy hair straight while preserving the hair’s health. Japanese Hair Straightening typically will improve the hair’s feel, softness and shine while making it more manageable for clients to style their hair with ease. Clients are not allowed to wash/wet or tie hair for 48hrs.

Q: How long will the Hair Straightening last?
A: Treated hair will remain straight permanently and will not become curly or wavy again. New growth that appears in the months following the Straightening will need to be touched up with the iStraight system. New growth usually needs to be touched up 6 months after the initial straightening.

Q: What kind of hair is suitable for Permanent/Japanese Hair Straightening?
A: iStraight System has three different strengths to match different hair types. In addition, solutions be mixed to customize the proper strength for the client’s hair type. All hair types can be a good candidate with proper education on the iStraight system.

Q: What will my hair look like after the Straightening?
A: Your hair will look naturally straight, shinier and will feel soft and silky.

Q: Will I still need to blow-dry my hair after Straightening?
A: Yes, if you would like to polish and style your hair. This usually takes about 3 to 5 minutes instead of 40 minutes.  Some people will not need to blow-dry at all for a natural straight look.

Q: When I get the new growth retreated, would they do all the hair again?
A: No, just the new hair growth.  The other hair is protected by using the innosys B3 Reaction Conditioner-Treatment and the innosys Pure Keratin so the iStraight solution will not saturate into the previously straightened hair.

Q: Can I still get Permanent/Japanese Hair Straightening even if I have color or highlights?
A: Tints and semi-permanent hair color that deposits color is not usually any problem at all.  If you have had your hair dyed black in the past and striped, please let your Stylist know as this can sometimes cause problems.

Q: Can I still get Permanent/Japanese Hair Straightening even if I have Henna in my hair?
Clients with Henna in their hair will need to let the stylist know. They may not be able to have the treatment done.

Q: How much would iStraight System Permanent/Japanese Hair Straightening cost?
A: Usually starting from $400 up to $800 depending on hair length, hair texture/thickness, amount of chemicals your stylist has to use, in addition to your stylist experience, salon location, whether post-care is included, and time of the year (if salon is running a promotion for a discounted price for only 1st time clients).  Always, call your salon to ask questions and go for a consultation so you and your stylist are on the same page 100%. Keep in mind, stylists time and experience cost both time and money, so don’t always go for the cheapest salon/stylist who is offering the Permanent iStraight System.

Q: Why does it cost so much?
A: The process usually takes from 3 to 5 hours.  You may be able to find this service for less, but be aware this is time consuming extremely, requires lots of talent, and precise treatment to be performed and those who charge less maybe and just maybe are less competent or use cheap products. iStraight System is made of the best ingredients to ensure consistency softness. Therefore, it is not cheap and always yield to stunning-elegant results.

Q: When I go back for the re-growth, would it cost less?
A: Usually not.  Because the same amount of time would be involved with the retouch, often the cost will be the same as a regular straightening.  All the hair still has to be ironed although the solution would be applied mainly on the roots.
