Thermal Straightening FAQ

Thermal Hair Straightening

iStraight system

Thermal hair straightening & Preconditioning is a unique and fairly in-depth process, so it is not uncommon to have many different questions about the treatment. Below is a comprehensive list of the most frequently asked questions about permanent hair straightening.

What is Thermal Straightening?

Thermal straightening can also be referred to as Japanese hair straightening, thermal reconditioning or permanent hair straightening. It involves having hair permanently straightened at a salon, by reshaping the structure of hair strands and follicles for a long-term straight look.

Who is Thermal Straightening for?

Thermal straightening is for anyone and everyone. If you’re looking to save time every morning by having one permanent straightening process, or want to put an end to your unruly, frizzy curls for good; permanent straightening can give any hair type the same frizz-free, silky and smooth results. The iStraight system by innosys in particular uses 3 different solution strengths (Max, normal and mild), making it suitable for even the most coloured hair types.

How long do the results last?

It’s in the name – the results from thermal reconditioning are permanent. One treatment is usually enough, but new growth at roots does need to be occasionally topped up. So, your new healthy, straight hair lasts as long as you want it to!

Straight hair is a favourite amongst celebrities.

How do I get it done?

Thermal reconditioning always takes place at a salon. Book an appointment with your local salon and, after a consultation, you should be briefed and ready for the treatment.

Will it damage my hair?

No! The process actually does the opposite, by sealing damaged cuticles and reversing the sign of previous damage, whether it be from chemical treatments, the Sun, or heated styling tools. Thermal reconditioning is the best way to get long-lasting straight hair that is also healthy and damage-free.

How long does the process take?

The process generally takes a few hours, depending on the length and type of your hair. Hair is coated with solution, washed, blow-dried, straightened and neutralised in the same sitting.

What ingredients are used in the formula?

Unlike other variations, iStraight stands out from its competitors by using all-natural, formaldehyde-free ingredients, to protect and nourish, rather than fry and frazzle, hair.
